Celebrated director Guillermo Del Toro's epic take on Frankenstein, which has been adapted from Mary Shelley's original 1818 novel, is now available to stream on Netflix. Frankenstein began a limited theatrical release on October 17, 2025, and has already opened to rave reviews from critics and audiences alike.
A classic of the gothic genre, Frankenstein is widely considered to be the first ever science fiction novel and tells the story of a self-centred inventor who creates a new lifeform out of different body parts from various corpses.
The synopsis for 2025's Frankenstein reads: "A brilliant but egotistical scientist brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation."
The movie boasts a star-studded cast, with actors from huge films like Dune, All Quiet on the Western Front and Harry Potter. TV fans will also recognise the cast from shows like Euphoria, Game of Thrones and The Witcher.

The two leads of Guillermo Del Toro's are Oscar Isaac, who plays the titular character, and Jacob Elordi, who plays the creature.
Oscar Isaac is best known for his roles in Hollywood movies like Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Ex Machina and Dune.
Meanwhile, Jacob Elordi is best remembered for playing Nate Jacobs in Euphoria, Noah Flynn and The Kissing Booth trilogy and Felix Catton in Saltburn.
Famous horror actress Mia Goth stars as Elizabeth in the new film, and fans might recognise her from movies like Pearl, X and MaXXXine.
Other cast members include Inglourious Basterds star Christoph Waltz as Harlander, All Quiet on the Western Front's Felix Kammerer as William Frankenstein, Game of Thrones legend Charles Dance as Leopold Frankenstein and Harry Potter actor David Bradley, who is simply credited as 'Blind Man'.
Additional supporting stars include Lars Mikkelsen, Ralph Ineson, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Kyle Gatehouse, Lauren Collins and Burn Gorman.
