Return to Paradise's Lloyd Griffith has revealed his character's backstory is set to be explored in the latest series.
The BBC show - a spin-off of TV hit Death in Paradise - started last year, starring Anna Samson as Detective Inspector Mackenzie Clarke, who was working for London's Metropolitan Police but returned to her home of Dolphin Cove, Australia to fight crime there.
Lloyd plays Detective Senior Constable Colin Cartwright, who is from the UK and works alongside Mackenzie. He shared that in the second series, which started last week, fans will get to see a bit more of why Colin is in Australia.
"You get to see a bit of Colin's backstory in this series, including why he moved to Australia and why he left the UK, with those two questions being closely linked," he shared.
"There's a little insight into his life back in Lincolnshire, and the family and friends he left behind."
When the first series wrapped, Mackenzie looked set to return to London, but her plans changed and she has returned for the programme's second run.
Lloyd said: "In series two, Colin is sad to see Mackenzie presumably leave, because he has learned so much from her over the course of series one.
"He's genuinely happy when she returns, but not just because she's his colleague, but because he's got his friend back."
"Colin's someone who tries to make everyone feel welcome, and I think he really wants to help Mackenzie feel part of Dolphin Cove again," he added.
Return to Paradise - which was filmed across Sydney and the Illawarra coastal region - is the second spin-off from long-running fan favourite Death in Paradise, alongside Beyond Paradise.
Its new episodes will see Mackenzie grappling with the bombshell that her ex-fiancé Glenn (Tai Hara) still has feelings for her, despite the fact that he is set to tie the knot with Daisy (Andrea Demetriades).
The officers also have an array of mysterious new cases to deal with, including the chemical poisoning of a man alone at sea and the case of a troublesome rock band who fall under suspicion when one of their members dies.
Return to Paradise can be streamed on BBC iPlayer
