Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], November 3 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday expressed hope regarding the restoration of the 'Darbar Move' tradition to serve as a boost for the Union Territory.
He stated that the government has fulfilled their promise by restoring the tradition and termed it as a "setback" for the people when it was "discontinued."
"Jammu had received a major setback when the Darbar Move was discontinued. It was also our responsibility, and we had promised the public that we would restore the Darbar Move. Today, the Darbar Move has been restored. I hope that this will give a significant boost to the economy of Jammu and Kashmir," Abdullah told reporters.
He also noted that the Darbar Move connects Srinagar and Jammu, and its suspension was a blow to the unity of Jammu and Kashmir.
"Some things hold emotional significance... The Darbar Move, which connects Srinagar and Jammu, was the biggest way to do so, and by stopping it, had dealt a blow to the unity of Jammu and Kashmir, which we have tried to rectify," Abdullah added.
National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah also expressed happiness over the move, noting that those who sought to separate Jammu and Srinagar have failed.
"Those who wanted to keep us apart have failed. Today we are together. Jammu and Kashmir are together," he said.
Earlier today, the 'Darbar Move' tradition, which had been deferred for the past four years in Jammu and Kashmir, was restored in the presence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
CM Abdullah received a warm welcome and a guard of honour in Jammu as he arrived for the 'Darbar Move' ceremony.
Abdullah also inspected the secretariat premises in Jammu following the ceremony. Meanwhile, the security was also heightened in the region in anticipation of the tradition. (ANI)
